Abrar Hasan

Born at home in Etawah (a town midway between Kanpur and Agra) in UP, the exact date of birth of Abrar Hasan is not known--from family history it is estimated to be a day in October 1936.  The government documents show July 10, 1938 as his date of birth.
His father Anwarul Hasan (b. 1905) owned agricultural land around the village of Haswa (near Fatehpur/Kanpur), but worked as a tax collector for the British India Government.  Abar Hasan’s mother, Athar Fatima, was a housewife.  Abrar Hasan’s two sisters Wasim Fatima and Qamar un Nisa were older than him, whereas his only brother Asrar Hasan was five years younger than him.
Abrar Hasan received his early education at home and then at the Vernacular Middle School in Haswa.  He passed his Intermediate exam in 1955 from Islamia Inter College in Etawah--the same year he moved to the newly created Pakistan.  Abrar Hasan received his law education from the S.M. Law College in Karachi, and started his independent practice as Abrar Hasan and Company in 1962.  Several years later he completed the course of Juris Doctor from the Georgia State University, Atlanta.

Throughout his legal career Abrar Hasan has been active in the politics of the various bar councils.  He has held the following offices.

President, Karachi Bar Association, 1979-1980
Vice Chairman, Sindh Bar Council, 1984
Executive Committee Member, Supreme Court Bar Association, 1993-1995
President, Sindh High Court Bar Association, 2006-2007

Abrar Hasan has also taught law at the Islamia Law College in Karachi and was the principal of that college 1997-1998.

In 2021, Abrar Hasan retired from active practice.  He now provides legal consulting services from his home office.  In 2024, he donated most of his law books to the Karachi University Law College.
